I grew up knowing as the "duck park "... lol but yes lakewood what i will always call it too... if wanted to honor him build another park, name a road...

That would be a question for statesville city council. I think its great that they want to honor MLK , but personally feel they screwed up on this. Just the sign to change the name was 4 grand. I'm still unclear as to why the city did this. With Statesville developing as it is, maybe they should have built a new park and let lakewood park remain lakewood
