It's an additional hours drive, but if I were pulling a horse trailer, I would take I-26 out of Johnson City, down to I-40 in Asheville. Then I-40 across to Morganton then pick up 64 to Lenoir and 321 up to Blowing Rock. Much fewer tight turns, which would seem to me to be better than the shortest route, but much more driving. Depends on how good your horses ride I suppose. M

Coming into Blowing Rock via 321 South, go to traffic light just past Tanger Outlet Mall, and turn right. Continue to next traffic light (at Mellow Mushroom and Speckled Trout), and turn right on 221 toward Linville. Continue aprox. one mile. You will see a small sign on the right that says "Horse Stables". Turn left, go up small hill and continue around the pasture until you see the entrance to the Equestrian Preserve and L.M. Tate Stables. Turn left down the hill, past the horseshow arena, where you will find the office in the first barn.
