Yes Newark. Then new Jersey transit (njt) has a station there to New York Penn station. You will be 20 min walk from times square. Easy uber or taxi ride.

All NYC airports are close to where you need to be, but the easiest is probably to fly into Newark and take the Air Train into the city.
