Behind the museum there is a looping trail follow it down a small hill at the bottom there is a walking bridge that goes over a Creek which is a bird sanctuary with Egrets and ospreys at the end of the bridge walk a little ways and you’ll find a beach on Cold Spring Harbor.
The bay is a short minutes drive...down the hill
The Long Island sound is just a short walk from the house.
The bridge to the water is in fone shape. I would caution humans and dogs yo be mindful of ticks.
Yes, sagamore overlooks water with huge porch...just lovely, peaceful place. Limits number of visitors to keep the wonderful ambience. SIGN UP 4 TOUR...THE GUIDE SO KNOWLEDGEABLE. bring a picnic basket. Shaded tables available..or bring blanket & sit on lawn, maybe under a tree. ALSO GO FREE MUSEUM THERE, was home of TR son.
The nature trail extends east to cold spring harbor. When i was last there this fall the bridges to get to the shore were in disrepair though.
A short walking trail, less than a mile in total, leads to the beach. The trail begins outside the Old Orchard Museum.
