This is NYC! Countless people every day enter into fraudulent marriages to obtain legal status. I've known quite a few. The plurality of which were actually of Russian origin. It's LITERALLY their only option if they want to obtain permanent residence (aka green card). People always talk about "getting in back of the line." WHAT LINE??? The Visa renewal line? That's for temporary stay. There is no path to permanent residency without any kin to sponsor you.

He may just be talkin smack. If he is referring to marriage fraud, he was referring to the possibility that he may have paid a United States citizen to lie under oath and to say that they were married in order for him to obtain legal status in the United States via fraud. In that case, both the petitioner and the beneficiary are subject 2 a hefty fine possibly $100,000 Plus 1 to 5 years imprisonment for attempting to defraud the United States government. If you would like to cross-reference this information just go onto www.uscis.gov and in the forms section click on to i - 485 and the i - 130 Visa petition read the penalties and fines section
