Absolutely disappointing.....I expected my first time at SS to be easy peasy....but then one Karen working behind the glass window at 7 was being a little rude and having a slight attitude towards me. Like, Don't work here if you wannabe rude towards your customers -_-

Absolutely worst experience ever at a government agency. The attendant at the window assumed I was not a citizen/permanent resident and gave me the worst treatment until I proved her assumption wrong with documentation. She also gave me a ‘last call’ on the first announcement. The website had me fill an application online based on my case to save time, but I still had to fill the same form again ‘because that was only for American citizens’. Awful experience. If you can, go to ANY other office but this one.

IT IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
Office opens at 7am. You can fill & print your replacement application online this way when you walk in you're set. Upon arrival you walk to the kiosk enter your ssn & you will be given a ticket. You'll be called right away; hand them hour filled out application with proof of identity birth certificate & proof of address. In less than 1 week your ss card will be in the mail. This place has very quick service. If you dont have access to a printer dont worry; office has the application & pencils at the entrance table.

Birth certificate works, you need current ID, so high school ID will probably not work. You will have a new one within 2 weeks. Be sure to report that you have 2 cards, if you find your old one. They keep tabs on that to make sure it is not fraudulent, so it helps to report that you found it.

No ssi is not open the web says open but ssi is not taking appointments or doing fair hearings at all until further notice i called ssi yesterday and they said the same. But call and make sure at 820 concourse probably they make appointments by reservations like motor vehicles.

my best answer to you is to call the social security office you go too. just inform them that you need an award letter. they will ask a questions to protect identity. they wii\ll mail it to you.

If you are in the area you can try and see if they can see you and you will get a replacement card. However, if you can find a place near where you live it is easier to get it there.
