I will be flying to NY to pick up a vehicle. Can I bring the license plate in my carry-on?

I was a passenger myself I don't know the answer. I do know if you book on line and pay for your bag on the airlines website you will get a list on your email of what you can and can't bring. My thinking is that if it's metal you need to pack it in your luggage and check it .🙋
