I want to take My granddaughter on a vacation trip with Amtrak, is there anyway for us to get the train in Atlanta and then transfer to any of the train trips going west or does Atlanta only go to Washington DC?

You can also buy a pass for unlimited rides for like a week. You would have to stay overnight in New Orleans since you will certainly be late then transfer to another route. I believe you can get from NYC to California in three trains total.

Amtrak departs Atlanta going east to DC and goes west into Birmingham then onto New Orleans.
