People who Bass fish, always put them back unless they are taking them to stock another pond. I don't know anyone who has actually cleaned and ate a Bass but I grew up raised by pro Bass fisherman... Bass fishing is a sport for most and they are let go in the end as a unwritten code. Everyone likes catching a big Bass.. putting them back increases the population and provides a better chance of catching the big one. Gary Yamamoto sinkos are the best bait you can use, if you know how to use them. There are several affective ways but it depends on condition. Personally, I like using a Gamakatsu hooks. Again, Google/research how to use them.
Yes you do have to throw them back. I guess it's just the fun of catching them.
Bass are catch and release. It is in the Maryland Guide To Fishing Regulations.
