I am looking for a new inexpensive laptop. They showed me a Lenova for $500 plus software. Could I save money by having them build me a computer?

Getting a laptop for less than 500 would be hard to do. Since Chrome books are that much. The Lenovo sounds good as long as it meets your requirements and the sw isn't too much.

That is a good bargain. However it all depends on your specific needs. If your budget is less than $500, then try Mercari online.

If a 500 computer will do what you need to do it's a bargain. I looked at Costco and nothing cheaper and micro center has the knowledge desk that can save you in a bind

You will save a lot of money if you are willing to compromise. But why not buy the parts and build yourself? Its not that complicated plus its fun.

Building a PC will always be less than a similarly prebuilt laptop. It simply depends on what features led you to wanting a laptop

If you're looking for a laptop, there's really not much in the way of having one built out due to the nature of the form factor and bespoke hardware. If you're just looking for a computer to use at home and don't need the portability, they should have some small form factor computer options, but it'll probably run you around the same price. Unfortunately, due to all the on going supply shortages, semi conductor constraints, and crypto mining stuff going on, PC hardware isn't as cheap as it was pre-pandemic.
