Portuguese whalers from the Azore Islands arrived at Point Lobos in 1861 and set up living quarters in the meadow at the southeast end of Whalers Cove.
Point Lobos became part of the CA state park system in 1933. Prior to that, it had been owned by A. M. Allen. After his death, the family sold the property to the state, fortunately for all of us.
I don't know. But I thought I saw a sign that said "On this very spot in 1851 -Nothing happened ".
Alexander Allen purchased the land in 1933 to keep it from being developed.
