Is the fishing pier currently open? And will a valid South Carolina fishing license work?

Yes it reopened last September. You do not need a license to fish from the pier as long as you are camping or have paid daily admission to the park.

It was 2 weeks ago but you have to have salt water license to fish it. You may can just buy a 3 day permit.
