I need an endocrinologist for my thyroid issue and my husband needs one for his type 1 diabetes. Does Dr. Mathews have much experience with insulin pumps, and can he also be a PCP as well as a specialty provider?

Hi Sheryl! Dr. Mathews has extensive experience with insulin pumps through his training and first hand experience as a Type 1 Diabetic. He is also the thyroid specialist in the area through his training at The Medical University of South Carolina, Mayo Clinic and achievement of ECNU status through the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologist (AACE). He is also able to empathize with his thyroid patients with his history of hypothyroidism. Dr. Mathews only practices as a specialist and not primary care. While Palmetto Endocrinology is the Endocrine Specialty Care Division of Palmetto Primary & Specialty Care Physicians, there are many providers within the practice that would love to serve as your Primary Care Provider and work in coordination with Dr. Mathews and his team.

He is a specialist in all that but he has a long waiting period ,took my wife 5 months to see him .

I'd call the office and ask. I can say however he is a fantastic Dr. With an excellent bedside manor. Highly recommend
