Dr. Mathews was good, but he books many months out. His office is quite a distance away, but it seemed like he was on top of things. He ordered a bunch of labs, and I had them done at MUSC with his blessing. I had a follow-up with an associate to just tell me what the results were. Due to COVID concerns, I opted to do a tele-health visit. I spoke with the PA, who was late to the appointment, and very distracted. Someone kept talking to her from the hallway. She also had a bunch of labs in front of her, but clearly had not looked at them. My questions about out-of-range values were hard because it was not all on one screen or printout. I understand that, but what I don't understand is why the lab results kept rolling in after that, and every time I had a question about an out-of-range result, it was days and days to get an answer. On the last result, I couldn't get a response at all. Today she actually told me that she couldn't answer my question on a result that came in 5 days ago because "her office wouldn't have ordered that lab". Well, they DID order that lab, and it was out of range, which I found very stressful. But instead of addressing my question, she deflected to not having ordered it. I even gave her the result and range for the test so she could comment on it, and was left hanging because she didn't see it in her file. The lab clearly has Dr. Mathews' name on it, but now I have to just not know until I can get it months from now with him? She should have called me, at the very least, to work out what happened. If you think that you can call and get someone other than the front desk on the phone, you will be disappointed. They have it locked down like Fort Knox. Any communication will be through messaging, and days will pass between each communication. Anxious about your results or have any questions? Too bad. Completely unacceptable, and I deserve better. So do you.

DR. Matthews was great. I am a first time patient who had all my questions answered at my first appointment. Look forward to getting the help i need

They take BCBS and Medicare. You don't need a referral (i didn't need one but i would double check when you call). And its probably going to be maaaybe 2-3 month wait. This is because Dr Matthews likes to see all new patients on their 1st visit. But he is amazing!
Hi Trisha, Yes, if appropriate Palmetto Endocrinology is able to administer Prolia injections in the clinic.
Hi Sheryl! Dr. Mathews has extensive experience with insulin pumps through his training and first hand experience as a Type 1 Diabetic. He is also the thyroid specialist in the area through his training at The Medical University of South Carolina, Mayo Clinic and achievement of ECNU status through the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologist (AACE). He is also able to empathize with his thyroid patients with his history of hypothyroidism. Dr. Mathews only practices as a specialist and not primary care. While Palmetto Endocrinology is the Endocrine Specialty Care Division of Palmetto Primary & Specialty Care Physicians, there are many providers within the practice that would love to serve as your Primary Care Provider and work in coordination with Dr. Mathews and his team.
They take Medicare.I don't know about the other.
