Are the black bears still active this time of year?

Not generally after it gets cooler.

From late November to mid-December, black bears in this area will retreat to their winter dens for torpor. The black bears at the WNC Nature Center still have access to their outside habitat, but you most likely won't see them again until spring.

We were there before Thanksgiving. We didn't get to see them. But the red pandas were out!
