This is a nature center, all native animals except the red panda. Bears, red panda, otters & goats were highlights. The walk-thru was exceptionally good. Staff was particularly nice. By in large the animals were displayed well. The fee to get in is about 14 per adult.

Kids enjoyed visiting the animals

Didn't see most of the animals other than the goats and donkeys. Worst park of its type that we have ever visited. On a positive note, it wasn't crowded. Guess there are not many repeat visitors.

Great place to take the kids (of all ages) to see some animals and walk around. Red Panda was the highlight along with the swimming otters. It was not crowded and an easy walk. They have a couple of play areas for the kids. Good bathroom facilities and well organized. Highly recommend this activity.

Yes its mostly flat and there are some steps but you can get to everything without taking them
Yes! There's a reservation cost that includes two-hours of room rental and admission for 20 people to the Nature Center. You can also do fun add-ons!
Admission Fee. Adults: $10.95 (Asheville City Residents – $7.95)
I would recommend calling the park first. Their needs for different kinds of donations change frequently.
Unfortunately, the Western North Carolina Nature Center no longer take in injured/abandoned wildlife. There are numerous wildlife animal rehabilitators in the area that can help. The first one that comes to mind is Appalachian Wildlife Refuge. Here is their website: https://www.appalachianwild.org/
The red pandas are set to be in their new habitat February 14, 2019. The center will have a male and female in the enclosure.
Annual family membership is <$100, and gets you into other great museums and zoos either free or discounted. It's a terrific deal!
It's outside but there are many areas to stay in shade or when it rains, and there is a roof over the place next to the animals
A family membership is $69 annually. That is for 2 adults and up to 4 children. You can add extra adults for $25 each and extra children for $14 each if needed. I'm not about gift cards, but the membership forms do have a section to purchase a gift membership and you can include the gift recipient for a family or individual membership. Hope that's helpful.
Close to opening! Everyone is waking up and getting fed. Also they are doing some after dark programs that are super cool and focus on the nocturnal animals
I am pretty sure that only service animals are allowed.
Hi Carlos, you have to buy a ticket to enter. You can find the prices at www.wildwnc.org. Thanks!
Thanks for asking! Pets are not allowed at the WNC Nature Center. Below is some additional information from the website about service animals: Service animals are permitted to enter the Nature Center. A service animal is trained to do work or perform tasks for and to assist an individual with a disability. All other animals, including emotional support, comfort, therapy, or companion animals are not considered service animals according to the Americans with Disabilities Act. Service animals should remain on a leash or harness (no retractable leashes) and under control of the owner at all times – meaning your service dog should not excessively bark and must be housebroken. You may be asked to leave if your service animal’s presence is creating excessive stress to the animals under the Nature Center's care.
Grandfather mountain has a really nice area of lots of butterflies and birds.
I'm sure if you call within a certain amount of time (48 hrs or so) they could assist.
Ticket prices are on the main page at wildwnc.org. Adult tickets cost $10.95, and Youth are $6.95. Discounts are available if you are an Asheville resident.
Yes! The WNC Nature Center is now officially reopen to the public. We're open 7 days a week from 10 am to 4:30 pm, with last entry at 3:30 pm. We are closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Years Day.
The WNC Nature Center is currently finalizing a reopening plan that meets the guidelines in the Governor’s Order for Phase 2.5. Details will be released soon, and we plan to begin a phased reopening by the end of the month. We'll announce all of this on our website (wildwnc.org) and social media when the reopen date is set! At this time, we are not accepting reservations. Thanks!
For plant identification (and some animal identification), we recommend an app like Seek by iNaturalist. You can snap a picture, and the app will help identify it. You can also log your findings in the app! Enjoy!
They are open 7 days a week 10am-5pm Closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, & New Year's Day
Its more like a walking trail. I dont believe bikes are allowed. Call and ask them.
You can also purchase a family membership (around $70) which is for an year and with this membership you get discounted admission or free admission to other zoos across the United States
That's one of the very few things that they don't have. The rest are animals you would find in relation to your surroundings!
7 and some change for buncombe county residents and around 9 for everyone else
Adults – $10.95 (Buncombe County. – $7.95) Seniors (65 & over) – $9.95 (Buncombe County. – $6.95) Youth (3-15) – $6.95 (Buncombe County. – $5.95) 2 and younger – free
Most days, there are 2 public programs- one at 11:30 AM and the other at 2:30 PM. Most days except for Wednesday, the 11:30 AM program is an otter feeding program.
Yes
Chickens, donkeys, goats, a bear, wolves, foxes, red panda, turtles, lizards, hellbender, snakes, otters, bobcats, mountain lions, owls, birds, deer
I would plan for 1-3 hours depending on how much time/interest you have at watching the animals. They also have a few kid-activities/play areas and light snacks and beverages in the gift shop. If you were to walk through the park without stopping to look at any of the animals, I anticipate it would take you about 20-minutes.
We had snacks with us and there are pick nic tables next to a play area. There is nowhere inside to buy food, so pack one in.
Yes, they're open 7 days a week 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. CLOSED Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day source: https://wildwnc.org/plan-your-visit
I woukd try WNC Nature center
I would suggest calling a local sanctuary or wildlife refuge and see if they would be willing to capture and relocate the bear.
Call them or go by.
Call Lee's Macrea college, they have a fowl center.
Mom.me/pets/robinegg has very specific guidelines and instructions. She tells you exactly what to do.
Call and ask, I have honestly no idea.
Yes. Plan your time during feedings. Otters get pretty excited, as do WNC Natural's outdoor aviaries. Saw toads get hand fed in amphibious area.
Only animals that are native or historically native to Western North Carolina
Only service animals allowed.
They charge $10.95 per adult ($7.95 if you are local resident). $6.95 kid ($5.96 if resident).
If you get the chance that means you've fallen about 30ft off an elevated walkway and you'll probably have a broken leg by then.
