We have volunteered many times with Girl Scouts and National Honor Society groups. It's a great experience, and the competition makes it fun.
You just sign up online. But make sure you have at least middle school age kids...it's fast paced work and requires some semblance of being able to follow instructions. It's better for older crowds. In that i mean, it's better for corporate functions. It can be competitive. Kids kind-of kill the competitive spirit because, frankly, they don't care. But then, it's still a good thing to do even for youngsters. Especially during the summer and in times when people are not feeling like they need to give back for "the holidays". Much easier to schedule during the care-less months.
You can just sign up through the website. And show up for what you sign up for
When you complete a session (which you can sign up for online) they offer verification of hours in the form of a yellow certificate which can be given to your school. There's no need to jump through any additional hoops, they make it very easy and fun.
You can call and talk to anyone at the center. They are great at helping and signing off for volunteer hours as needed.
