If you are looking for those really big Sequoia's, we didn't see any of those at Coy Flat campground. The ranger said they were at much higher elevations. As far as the temps at night, it started getting cold somewhere between 3am-4am. Maybe low 60s this past weekend. Keep in mind too, there are no campfires allowed at this campground due to the fire season. You can bring a portable fire pit w/propane though if you have one.
There is no sequias trees near by and summer nights are in the 50s
Yes! There's a sequoia tree's if you hike a little up the dirt road. We were there in August and it was not cold at night.
I was there a week ago and we saw plenty of trees nearby. The campground itself is not in the Sequoias but there are many in the surrounding area. I suggest going to the Camp Nelson store and asking for the local trail guidebook. It has over a dozen suggestions of places to see these beautiful giants. Our favorite was the Nelson trail not too far from Camp Nelson. The campground itself is primitive and a bit dusty, but 7 of us stayed for a week and had plenty to explore and we're grateful for the shady campground. We never felt too cold at night.
This place sucks. No trails nearby and the campsites were poorly maintained. My wife and I stayed for an hour then left. Find a better spot.
