For the most part, you can't just "go there". If you need to be there you will be sent there. And at that point, insurance will not be an issue. Not to scare you, just saying, you should investigate other options with your doctor. He or she will know.

Daniel is correct, you can be committed either after committing a crime and after a mental evaluation be sent there or considered a danger to yourself or others and be committed by the mental health board.
