I found it very informative and it was mainly from the former slaves point of view which is different than most historic sites of this kind.
I went on the tour memorial day weekend 2018. It was an experience of a lifetime that I think every American should be required to do. The tour guide was not just informative in the information they provided with the tour, she answered off the cuff questions about the families what happened to them after they left the plantation and other stories about the Civil War and what happened, it was almost as if she had lived it with the level of detail that she had. I highly highly recommend going, it will not short change you. It was a very nostalgic experience for me and my family including my sister, wife and daughters
I didn't take the tour but if I were you I would contact the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor.
My family, was humbled by the tour for its very honest narative about plantation life and the history up until present day.
Our tour with Olivia was very informative. As Shanon said, it's mainly from the point of view of the formerly enslaved. I know the director of the site personally, and he's very good about ensuring historical accuracy.
Very informative. Worth every penny. I would do it again. The tour guide was super knowledgeable and then the self-guided part had some informative reading.
Lots of information, including current updated info as it occurs since it also an active dig. The information your seeking can be obtained through county records, one of the guides can give you the resources. To answer fully, yes tour is fully worth it.
Fairly informing. But they don't go into detail about many of the former inhabitants. They do highlight a few thou.
