The Sanibel Island beaches are one of the top 3 shell collecting locations in the world. All shells displayed are real, not models or pictures.
There is a live area where you can touch real living shells. And also an area that is interactive but mostly photos and descriptions. But there are tons of actual shells from all over the world inside behind glass. Not that you can touch. They have a scavenger hunt for children and they get a free shell and coloring book if they do it. They also have living octopus and seahorses as well as fish.
