Went on Valentine's weekend. We saw a few and they told us there were only 188 at peak this year.
Yes the season begins in November and seems to get shorter as years go on. There used to be thousands and thousands but not so much anymore. And yes the trip to Pismo and Avilla are well worth it.

I think she means are they still there this season? The season goes from November to February but it's iffy in February whether they'll still be there in large numbers. I don't live there so I can't tell you for sure. I'd do a Google search if you're planning to travel far for just that reason but it's worth the trip in season for sure. A trip to Pismo is never a waste for me it's beautiful there.
