Hi Jose. 1) Inclusiveness is worthy & necessary. Excluding children isn’t worthy. 2) Kids Castle is 22-yrs old & was reaching its end of lifespan. The Castle itself was saved from demolition but all the surrounding play structures needed to be removed & replaced. 3) We've not been closed a year. Major construction was needed to upgrade the subgrade - foundation work, adequate drainage, concrete installation, & so forth. The length of closure is not unusual for the amount of work done. 4) The money for the project was raised by volunteers with contributions from the community, sponsors, Grants, & in-kind donations of goods & service. 5) The enhancements are a total & complete rebuild of the project area & therefore, not modest. 6) The priorities are in order & the goal is providing a safe, free fun-place for all children to enjoy & that includes kids with special needs. Thanks for your support of play for all abilities at Kids Castle :) Please Donate here: http://bit.ly/All-Abilities
It's amazing how people have great opinions but don't understand this is being cared for with unpaid volunteers. If you seriously love this place and use or rely on it that much why not just help out? I certainly missed it but understood it needed to be fixed for sure. You have to remember older kids also came here not just to play but "hang out" and they sometimes did mischief. The weather wasn't kind either and now they've learned from that. Seriously become a 'friend' of the playground. I'm actually considering it.
Inclusiveness is a worthy goal and should help to guide one’s actions if the actions are otherwise sensible. But closing a functional and joyous park for a year and spending half a $ million on a seemingly modest enhancement doesn’t seem sensible. Are priorities in order? Just my humble opinion. We’ll see what the result looks like. Maybe it will blow us away...here’s hoping.
It's been closed for too long. Everytime I enquire about it they give different dates. Reopening date was July, then moved to August, and now we are in November. It in a never going t ok reopen. You set your goals wa at to h in gh wa anting t ok provide play areas for the handy cap. I get it and for it but in the process of trying to achieve your set goal you have mb managed to deprive other children of playing. M as Kesha no sense to me and others
I think safety was a concern. But I don't have all the information.
