Tell them your situation and they will give you the numbers of the exact people that have openings right now, and can give you contact persons which will make getting somewhere much easier and quicker. Go to shelter bro. Check with salvation army. But go in person to social services. Try crisis ministry. Lots of help in Charlotte. Good luck.
