So many billions of these coins were minted and so many saved that dealers would not be interested in them. They would never be able to sell them.

What are you saying. It's a coin shop. They buy and sell rare coins. They buy and sell hold and silver coins.
It depends on the denomination. Penny and nickel, typically face value, dime, quarter or half dollar, at least silver content.
One dollar. 1977 saw only clad coins minted.
1943 was the year that they made pennies out of steel so they could use the copper for the war effort. There were 400-500 million made. It's a conversation item Worth a few cents or more pending the grade
