It is a three-stop process. First bureau of vital statistics to get the certificate, then to the courthouse which is a couple of blocks away, and then to the secretary of state of New York which is also just a few blocks away. I did it the other day and I was able to get it done in just a couple of hours. Parents can obtain their child's certificate.

Do they give you the copy of the birth certificate in NYC on the same day, so that you can complete the 3 step process all in one day or do you need an “emergency appointment”?
