To get your birth certificate in person you need to have been born in the 5 boroughs, bring your valid (non expired) id, and a form of payment NO CASH. Each certificate is $15.00 plus 2.75 processing fee. You are able to pick up a child's birthday certificate if you name is on the certificate and you bring valid photo ID and payment. They must have been born in the 5 boroughs.
