Where do the profits go? Do they go into the community?

No this is a for profit they purchase in bulk from non profits for dirt cheap rates and get glassware items free as a bonus then resale for very high marked up rates in addition to donations that they receive for free from store drop offs donation boxes and items picked up from peoples homes, theres nothing thrifty about 2nd Ave.

This is a for-profit store. As in many thrift stores, the charities get their money when the stores buy the goods from them (at wholesale rates). I believe this store buys from several charities.
