I would recommend reserving seats as they fill up quickly
The theaters have a low seating capacity. While most people order online (fandango), they do have walk up customers. So, you're not REQUIRED to buy in advance but it is the best way to ensure you'll find two or more seats together.
When you purchase tickets you have to select seating. So yes it's like a reservation.

If the movie is new, I'd recommend to buy the tickets in advance. The theater has a specific number of seats
