Depends on what you are buying. REI is great for buying items that are not a generic item. When i need a backpack that i want to try on before lugging it for a week i go to REI and talk to their experts. If you are just buying a generic water bottle go to Amazon. You go to REI and pay a premium for professional services, which they excel at.
