Hi Paralee,' Yes, many growers recommend that you put some cuts or air vents (3 or 4, like you said) in the top of the crust when baking. Hope that helps!
I baked several of the frozen pies from Apple hill...some I put the holes in...some I forgot. Both ways turned out good for me. Good luck!
