If you're looking for a very loveable dog that's a little older, I'm actually in possession of a Beagle that is approximately 9 years old. He is a great guy, he loves to cuddle and play. Low maintenance, he is a bit above 25lbs. but he's a fantastic companion!! He'll cuddle up in bed w/ you if that's what you're looking for, or he's happy to plop down right on the floor. His name is Barney and he is a great dog!!!

Free is a little hard since shelters have to take care of the dogs with food and medical care, unless they have really large donations. You could check around but I think the only was you'll find a free dog is through an individual who needs to give theirs away for some reason.

Keep in touch with various shelters regularly. For instance, over the Christmas holidays, someone at the Burlington County Animal Shelter paid for ALL adoptions during this timeframe! When there is overcrowding at the some shelters in Philly, they have free adoption events. Good luck in your search!

Most of your areas local and in Clayton NJ have certain pet adoption fees as they give the dogs all the certain shots and whatever is required to give him in healthy coindtion to you. Although I do know that they have days where they have like a open house and occasionally at their discreation lower these fees. This is to give a larger population of dogs and cats to be adopted all at once and make space for incoming new ones. The Blackwood shelter is a no kill shelter they will not kill the aniamals if not adopted. I encourage you to call both and ask them. Im sure they could answer your ?s
