I wanted a hotel with an indoor pool so that before or after skiing my children could swim. The closests hotels I could find were the Hotel Vienna which was booked solid and the Howard Johnsons and Comfort Inns in Saugerties. I stayed at the Howard Johnsons. I am very glad I found a hotel with a pool because things went wrong during our trip with the result that one of the days we couldn't ski. The Howard Johnsons is next to the Apollo diner which has quality food which we all enjoyed. The only disappointment was they did not have free continental breakfasts as many hotels do. On the other hand the price was good.
The best two options are to stay at the Katskill Mountain Club, and or a rental condo located in the Hunter Highlands. Great ease of access to the trails.
Hunter Mountain has a hotel right on the mountain. There are also Motels located right outside the Mountain main entrance.
