Shaeshia, no they don't need to be present. But if you get placed the same day, it'll be a time saver because they only give you and kids 4 hours to get to the shelter. If you can afford (time wise) to leave them, pick them up once you get place, and get to shelter with in those 4 hours then definitely do so if that's what you to do. Just make sure everyone has a bag ready and packed because that's extra time you might not have. I'm not sure what the penalty is for getting to shelter after the 4th hour, but I wouldn't risk it. The process just to do the interviews and get placed could take more than 5 hours...so just keep that in mind. Also bring their paper work and yours it will be needed. Btw, they are doing interviews by phone and you can leave the building during that time. Just don't go too far because you have to go to the basement to get your placement information.
