It's free. But sometimes is hard to find parking here. I did park in a near place, and walked there.
The parking lot just outside the fort cost money... Get there early as that parking lot get full as the day goes on.
You can park at the St. Augustine visitor center. It's a short walk over.
Get there early the free parking can fill up fast
Parking is very difficult to find. Be ready to walk some distance.
I had to pay for my parking it just depends where you park how much you pay.
If it is busy parking anywhere can be hard to find. You may have to drop people off and then circle around a while till you see someone leaving. You will probably need to pay. I have never gotten a free spot till 5pm which is also when the fort closes. If you pay you will select how long you will be there and get a window ticket good till then. Most (not all) spots are free after 5pm so if you get one of those do not pay for any time beyond that even if you plan to stay till 8pm. The machine will not stop you from paying for extra time and the free after 5pm is not highly visible so a lot of people over pay.
Actually just went there a week ago, if it is free, you have to park at a significant distance, at least during the day business hours which is when the fort is open. Otherwise it is a pay lot for the main lot, small kiosk to put in license plate and pay.
There is parking at the visitors center as well. It is a little bit of a walk but not that bad
