Fort Marion is what the Castillo was called when the United States got Florida in 1821. Under the Park Service and the congress, it was renamed to what it was originally and allowed to fly the Spanish Flag. It served as a military facility from 1672 (when it started construction) till after WW2. It has a fantastic history and never lost a battle.
When it was taken by the USA it was called Fort Morse.
