I'm sorry to hear this, I've never had an issue with the company as a whole. I believe what they do is hook the car up to a machine that lets them know what the problem could be & they go from there. I'm not sure why they would charge your step-father if nothing was fixed. My suggestion would be to call & find out protocol on that issue. They are usually very helpful.
