They generally do sell links to make chain-mail over in the jewelry sections. It is however a lightweight aluminum chain-link not a heavy ligit metal kind. Other craft stores with jewelry sections carry it as well.

I visited the Joann in Independence yesterday and have never seen the store looking so bad. It was hard to find what I was looking for, everything was quite a mess. After seeing the line to have fabric cut, I left without my purchase.
