The purse size is likely a medium sized purse, meaning about one foot by one foot by 10 inches. I have seen them allow bigger in though. They WILL search all purses and any pack that may come in and a big purse will hold up the line, or, at the very least, make you wait while they go through it.
If i remember correctly it is 12 x 12 x 4 and has to be clear.
