First, here's a great tip for anyone under 35: you can get CST tickets for only $20! https://www.chicagoshakes.com/plays_and_events/cst_for_20 Next I'll answer your questions as best I can as a frequent play goer and long time subscriber to CST. They, along with most theatres, are indeed "non-profit." That doesn't mean they work for free; that means that donations made to them are tax-deductible. Ticket revenues do NOT cover all their costs, and they get millions in donations. I'm more surprised by how many people are rich enough to donate so much to them than I am by how many can afford their tickets. Lots of folks pay even more to go to major league sporting events or to see Hamilton. CST productions are always of the highest quality.
Where do you find $41 tickets? I want to go on a Thursday and it costs $125
Weekday tickets start out at only $41 which is actually pretty reasonable for a live professional production. Weekends obviously cost more. Also, u can save 15% on tickets if u can round up enough work friends/church buddies to get a group discount. It only takes 10 people to qualify for that and even comes with exclusive dining discounts at a couple partner restaurants located in the Pavilion. So u can do dinner and a show for up to a 20% discount. Not a bad deal. 😉
Chicago Shakespeare Theater is not non profit. Navy Pier Incorporated who operates the general and common areas on navy pier is non profit.
Who told you that it is non profit?
