From my experience it's customary to give them a tip, we got off shuttle with a group of 15 and everyone tipped the luggage handlers.
Always tip the luggage handlers separate. They work at the port. I normally give them $5 or $10 for our family of 3.
As a matter of fact no one works for free. The guys/ladies in orange help w luggage but are not part of the disney onboard personnel. I always tip whoever assists me...
These people are your luggage handlers that help get your luggage to your room upon very first arrival if I am understanding your statement. I was advised(via books, research) to tip them a few bucks for their help, but I was never asked for money. These people are not included in the normal tips that go to your head waiter, waiter, house cleaning for your room, etc that everyone had to pay.
They do not work for the cruiseline. They work for tips. $1.00 a bag is not nearly enough. Average is $3 for each bag. Set aside money for your return as well. They will help through customs and go all the way to your car if that is how you are travelling.
The cruise director in our ship said the guys in orange will help with the bags and it is customary to tip, 1$ per bag. That message is actually played on the ship channel on our day before getting off the ship.
I don't know if their employer requires them to ask, but it's certainly expected and customary to tip.
I always tip is very nice thing to do I think that if that was me or any of my kids we'll be thankful
I wasn't asked for money directly. ..But was told that Tips are very appreciated and are split between them....
I don't think so? If you're on the ship, like in your stateroom, maybe. If you're at the dock and their putting ypur luggage on the ship, then no, I don't think so.
