A quaint place
I enjoyed the info that dealt with whaling the most. I travelled the globe on 2 aircraft carriers, but can still be fascinated by low tech survival that they mastered. I'm not strong enough to have cut it back then.👍😎⚓⚛
Most of the buildings are from the area and we're moved there. ... several by barge.
Whaling.
They found preserved wood from the 1800s to refurbish the Charles W Morgan with timber from its own era.
Right now the Mayflower II is going through a major overhaul, it was interesting talking to some of the workmen about how the ship was built.
Ship building and repair, rope making, etc just like they did back in the day. It's interesting to see how and why. It's also got the whole town with school and everything like life was like then. It's like stepping back in time.
home to one of the last whaling ships with Charles W Morgan
It's perhaps the premiere repository of our maritime heritage of the past few centuries. Including the whaling industry, shipbuilding industry, as well as faithful recreations of nearly every aspect of maritime port life in the 1800's. A really great place to spend time.
The whaling info was most interesting. But the typeset was very fascinating. One needed to be a good speller esp backwards.
The old timey print shop
They made all their own whaling harpoons and ship equipment as well as the ships
Great museum
The wood boat maintenance.
They have both indoor and outdoor exhibits. We love the penguins(outside) they also have a movie theatre.
