What is the normal rehab time for knee replacement. I was told by a PT I went to in Brandon that you go in from the side and not the top/center. Looking to schedule a consultation.

I am 4 weeks post-op w/ Dr. Nguyen. Side incision on right knee. Comparing my recovery with non-side ops I seem to be ahead. Office personnel were also great w/ arranging all my post op care and PT. Off walker or cane after 2 days. Off narcotic pain meds after 5 days and driving after a week. Not hiking yet but hopefully soon!

I had my 2 knees were replaced about 6 and a 1/2 years ago. I have an extreme pain tolerance, So I was off of meds and driving a car less than a week after my surgeries. I do know that most of the people that have this surgery takes a fair amount more time than that. Good luck with it he does a great job.

It depends what you mean by rehab time but the way I describe the recovery is as follows. The patient is up and walking immediately after surgery. The first week after surgery most patients need a walker for safety and stability. After that most patients move on to using a cane or no assistive device. The first two weeks are for the most part the most uncomfortable but improving day by day. By six weeks most patients are feeling much better and getting back to more normal activities. By three months patients are back to more strenuous activities like active sports.
