When going for an assessment, you are taken into the locked area of the hospital and put in a private waiting room. You are not allowed to take in your belongings for safety reasons...after all, this is an ASSESSMENT. If you are deemed to not be a threat to yourself or others, they will suggest the Outpatient Program during the day and you go home at night. If you have thoughts of self harm, suicide, violence towards others then YES, they can and WILL KEEP YOU. Usually a 72 hour hold, and you are better off for it. ♥️😊🦋
I have never seen a psychiatric hospital that DID NOT have the right to keep you for 72 hours if you are having suicidal ideation or thinking of harming others! I spent 3 weeks there 3 years ago and I am the best I have ever been! Kudos for Cottonwood!❤️🌈🦋✌️✝️
Well for people looking for outpatient services they should treat you with dignity and respect. They should do that for anyone. Instead they want to strip you of everything at the front door and treat you like a criminal behind bars. Makes you really not want to go here. Not a good first impression folks. So if you looking for help and just need to talk don’t go here. You might get locked up and they can involuntarily lock you up for a set amount of hours if you accidentally at the wrong thing. This is a prime example of why people needing help don’t get it.
They cannot make you stay against your will, if that is what you are asking
