The number of birds has a lot to do with water level. The water level has been quite high lately and therefore all of the nature has been more dispersed. My last several trips have had relatively limited bird sightings although there have been hawk and a small assortment of other bird. If the water level drops there will be an increase in sightings.
I was there a couple weeks ago and there were many birds. Perhaps because the water level is a bit lower, we saw more mammal species than usual.
You'll always see all kinds of wildlife, but more when there are places for them to perch or stand, so when there's less water.
Baby anhingas are in a nest at the north lettuce lake right now! Baby Limpkins have been seen recently, lots of songbirds including warblers vireos, wrens, cardinals and painted buntings. Red shouldered hawks. Barred owls. Wading birds. Flycatchers. 6 species of Woodpeckers are regularly seen. Doves, grackles...etc. Over 50 bird species were seen by one visitor earlier this week from the boardwalk. Wading birds will be more plentiful near the boardwalk soon as the water level drops in the dry season.
Not, sure I would think so because it is winter migrtory birds may be there. Florida always has a plethora of birds in my opinion. Call the facility, to make sure its of your favor in bird selection.
We were there a few weeks ago and saw very birds. Visited SixMileCypress last week and saw many birds and gators.
There are a lot of birds in the sanctuary all year round but early morning and late afternoon are the best times to see the most
