We have had the same problem there is a Holiday in on Guess road they offer the best rate with the discount, they give free breakfast and give transportation, sadly there is not any free housing to my knowledge I am at Duke currently with family.
There is not as far as I know any free Duke housing but there are several hotels that are willing to help in the area with discounts and transportation. My son's had his leg amputated and told us about a couple of them, ask customer support at the hospital they will know.
