Parking near the Mardi gras world is not free. It's owned by a convention center nearby. The parking fee without re-entry is $15 and with multiple entries upto 24hrs is $30. You could park little far away on the roadside for lesser fee. It would be about 10 min walk
I don't know we road in an uber because we had cocktails.

You can use one of the cruise parking lot right before you cross the railway tracks. It is right in front of the entrance. Keep looking right before you cross the railway tracks, it is hard to find the parking signs
