I have hardwood flooring in all of downstairs in my home, except bedrooms. I wear socks. I've put down rugs in high traffic areas...sink, stove, fridge and oven. Because the finish will wear fast if not protectef. I also use a wet Swiffer every other day or so, to keep the grit from shoes destroying the floor. (Great room, foyer, living room, dining room, kitchen table, hall way...all have area rugs). So yes, it's safe to use, u'll just have to work inorder to maintain the finish. I've been in my home since 2001.. still has a great finish.

Use caution when setting up a kitchen with hardwood flooring. A kitchen is vulnerable to spills of food and fluid that may lift the grain of the wood or permanently stain or ruin the finish of a hardwood floor. Make sure to wipe out spills with a cool, clean cloth immediately.
