Shelter placement is decided by DHS at the time clients are applying at DHS PATH center. Clients can request to be placed in a specific borough, but due to DHS limited current placement resources such request are usually denied, sometimes clients can be put on a waiting list for an opening in the requested borough if they can prove the necessary requirements for special circumstances. Though there is no guarantee when or if such an opening will be available, in the meantime while waiting clients can be placed anywhere within the DHS shelter system depending on shelter availability and clients family size.
You can't request a family shelter direct location. You only can ask your case worker you want to move to a family shelter in brooklyn with proof. Such as proof of your job or husband job in Brooklyn, doctor in Brooklyn, kids school in Brooklyn. Other than that you will be in any Boro they assign to you.
