Fishermans wharf and downtown are very close with tons of restaurants and shopping
Shopping is all over an you can find lot's of cool t-shirts an outher Monterey California stuff
The closest shops are downtown by the aquarium and the nice thing is you have a lot of shops to choose from.
Your best bet would be to go over to the wharf. There is great food and all the cozy little shops with all the gifts you could ask for.
